The Artists
Paul H. Hurst:
Mr. Hurst studied with pianists Jacob Gimpel and Leonid Hambro, with composer Dr. Beverly Grigsby, and with harpist De Wayne Fulton. Mr. Hurst started his professional career at the age of fourteen and is now known internationally as a concert harpist, pianist, and composer. Early in his career, he performed with many stars including Diana Ross, Sammy Davis, Jr., Tom Jones, Paul Anka, and Ann Margaret at Ceasar’s Palace in Las Vegas. Mr. Hurst then began a career as a concert harp and piano soloist. As a duo partner of his mentor, the late De Wayne Fulton, Mr. Hurst gave hundreds of Columbia Artist’s concerts in the 1990s. His numerous recordings include popular, classical and ethnic music. His own composition, “Sequoia Rhapsody” concert for harp, piano, and orchestra, was recorded by the Moscow State Radio Orchestra with Mr. Hurst as soloist. He teaches harp, piano, voice, and music theory. Currently he is the Muscial Director for the Peninsula Musical Arts Association. Mr. Hurst has several CDs available. Valerie Miller:
Ms. Miller is an award winning soprano and actress. She began her performance career at age four in opera, the dramatic stage, film, television, musical theater, and recording. In opera, she has performed such roles as Violetta in “La Traviata,” Fiodiligi in “Cosi Fan Tutte,” and the Mother in “Amahl and the Night Visitors.” As soprano soloist, she has performed with the San Francisco Symphony, Bellflower Symphony, Golden West Opera, Los Angeles Music Theater Opera, Desert Opera, and Opera Pacific. Her musical theater appearances have included starring roles in “Evita,” “The Sound of Music,” and “The Music Man,” for which she won three Best Actress Awards from San Francisco’s Woodminister Amphitheater. Ms. Miller studied acting with the legendary Ms. Stella Adler, and by her special invitation, with William Chow of the Peking Opera. Ms. Miller graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy with honors and then attended the Manhattan School of Music, both on full scholarship. She is also a scholarship recipient from the Los Angeles Fine Arts Council. Her recordings include “Valerie,” and the contribution of an operatic aria to the soundtrack of the Tom Cruise film, “All the Right Moves.” She performed as vocalist on the CD “Love Journeys,” rated sixth on the New Age Voice Charts in 2001. Ms. Miller is a member of NACUSA, AGMA, Actors Equity, AFTRA, and SAG. She currently studies composition with Dr. Beverly Grigsby. |
